Who can come on a Kiwirun Tour ?
Most tours have been scheduled during the US college semester breaks. Tours are also suitable for post collegiate athletes, recreational runners, and older runners. Currently Kiwirun tours do not provide for high school athletes.
How fast do I need to be?
You don’t need to be able to keep up with Nick! Kiwirun tours accommodate a range of running abilities. Please don’t feel like you might not be fast enough to participate. Packs will be formed at the start of each run to cater for your specific ability level or desired intensity for a particular day.
Where will we be staying?
Veunes for the Jan 2010 tour have been selected to provide functional, comfortable accommodation, while keeping tour costs to a reasonable level. Accommodation is best described as a mix of motel and backpacker accommodation. Please click on the various websites for more information.
Auckland:
Eden Christian Hostel. A basic, but nice student hostel located close to downtown Auckland. Very close to down town Auckland and 5 mins jog from Auckland Domain. A great place to unwind aclimatise as you start the tour.
Rotorua:
Alpin Motel. A highly recommended motel/conference centre located 3 minutes jog from the spectacular Redwood Forest. The Alpin is owned and operated by local running enthusiasts Steve and Gillian Osbourne.
National Park:
The Discovery Lodge – the closest accommodation to Tongariro crossing with full Panoramic views of Ruapehu, Ngauruhoe and Tongariro. Disocery Lodge is run by world mountain-running representative Callum Harland.
Wellington:
Silverstream Retreat – Silverstream Retreat is located in idyllic settings overlooking the Hutt River, close to Lower Hutt and Wellington.
Do I have to follow the training listed on the draft itinerary?
No. We recognise everyone will have different training needs and we want to work with you to achieve you personal training goals. All camp locations have options of running from camp, or driving (usually less than 1 hour) to a targeted training locations. Most bases have access to 400m tracks, and/or off road flat surfaces for those who need to do track or interval workouts.
How do meals work?
NZ running tours will supply the following meals
Breakfast 14 meals
Lunch 10 meals
Dinner 7 meals
Other meals will be your responsibility. We will provide access and transport to Restaurants, Grocery stores etc.

How much of the tour will Nick be joining us for?
Barring injury, Nick will be training with the group for the Wellington portion of the tour. Rotorua is one of Nick’s favourite training locations but he is unable to commit to the Rotorua portion at this time.
Who will be our guides?
Local runners will act as guides on organized training runs. There will also be people on mountain bikes for added support. You will be given clear directions prior to each run, and be provided with detailed maps where necessary.
What happens if I am in an accident in NZ?
Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) in NZ will cover medical treatment for overseas visitors in New Zealand. This does not include lost income. You are encouraged to take out your own travel insurance. www.acc.co.nz/about-acc/ssLINK/ABA00105

How much of a factor is Jet lag?
The effects of Jetlag will vary for different people. You are best to take it easy in the first couple of days in Auckland.
